Flora and Fauna:

Lilacine Amazon (Amazona lilacina), Great Green Macaw (Ara ambiguus guayaquilensis), Ecuadorian Capuchin (Cebus aequatorialis), Bototillo (Cochlospermum vitifolium), Algarrobo (Prosopis pallida), Ceibo (Ceiba trichistandra).

Las Balsas Reserve was created to protect the roosting sites of the Lilacine Amazon, an endangered species. This endemic bird from Ecuador only exists on the Coast of the country and is threatened by habitat loss and illegal trafficking.

There is also a population of Great Green Macaw, a subspecies critically endangered, with less than 60 individuals in the wild.
