Jocotoco is working with the community of Las Tunas to protect sea turtles, and clean the beaches and Ayampe River. Thanks to the support of the British Embassy and the work of our volunteers, we've been able to help over 1000 sea turtles reach the ocean. The species Lepidochelys olivacea is the most common turtle in Las Tunas. The University of Guayaquil is helping the foundation by gathering important data about sea turtles nests.

One of our main goals is to raise awareness about the importance of sea turtles and the threats they face. Taking into account that sea turtles are fairly common in the area of Las Tunas, some people think they are not threatened and are not aware about the effect their everyday actions can have in turtle's reproduction and hatching. We will be conducting more workshops next month.
