Pumas had been hunted out of the paramo by the time that we established our Chakana Reserve in 2011. Now, our park rangers spotted one for the first time during their regular patrolling at the upper part of our reserve.
Pumas had been hunted out of the paramo by the time that we established our Chakana Reserve in 2011. Now, our park rangers spotted one for the first time during their regular patrolling at the upper part of our reserve. We previously captured pumas on our camera traps, as you can see in the video. The presence of this important predator testifies to the health of the ecosystem that we protect within Chakana Reserve!
Our work on the field is important now more than ever. More people are moving back to rural areas, increasing the pressure of illegal hunting and logging within our reserves. Thanks to our park rangers' work, animals like the puma, can find safehaven in our Chakana Reserve.
